The International Football Federation announced yesterday that the Education City Stadium will host the final match of the Club World Cup, which will be held in Qatar from December 11th to 21st, three years before Qatar hosting the World Cup 2022.
According to FIFA statements, the stadium, with a capacity of 40,000 spectators, will also host the third-place match in this year’s edition of the Club World Cup. This in addition to hosting the first game of the Champions League winner, Liverpool, in the tournament in the semi-finals on 18 December.
The event is an important milestone for Qatar on its way to host the World Cup 2022, where Education City Stadium will be officially unveiled before hosting the first match in semi-finals of the Club World Cup.
Education City Stadium will become the third stadium for the World Cup 2022 to be opened, after Khalifa International Stadium in 2017 and Al Janoub Stadium earlier this year.
It should be noted that hosting the Club World Cup is a golden opportunity to develop the level of readiness for hosting the World Cup 2022. Also, thousands of fans and visitors from around the world will test the unique experience that awaits them when they come to Qatar to support their favorite teams a few years later.
A Diamond in the heart of the desert
Education City Stadium draws a chapter of the rich history of Islamic architecture, as Its facade is characterized by triangles that form interlocking geometric motifs such as diamond lines that reflect the sunlight, and show a change in colors whenever the sun rays angle changes while rotating in the sky from sunrise to sunset.
As it’s inspired by diamonds, the stadium’s design represents quality, durability, and flexibility, and it will also become a dear place to everyone who has visited it and lived an experience that will be never forgotten. This in addition to its high value as a part of the country’s bright future.
The final stages of construction
During the past few months, the project manager, Eid al-Qahtani stated that the finishing works of the roof have been completed by 75%, the flooring has exceeded 80%, as well as the dyes and thermal insulation has been completed by 80%, and the works of concrete grandstands have been finished. The project will enter its final stage that includes the installation of the plastic seats and grassland.
High-level design
According to Al-Qahtani, the stadium was designed using the best international practices that will result in high levels of water and energy efficiency, as at least 20% of the materials used in the stadium are from sustainable sources, in addition to the purchase of 55 of the total building materials from local sources in order to reduce the carbon emissions of the stadium.
Due to these strategies, Education City Stadium, which will host the FIFA World Cup 2022 matches until the quarter-finals, has become the first stadium in the world to receive the GSAS five-star certification program.
