6 remarkable stadiums for the World Cup 2022

In three years from now, Qatar will host the world’s largest football tournament for the first time in the Middle East. Accordingly, Qatar has built new stadiums in preparation for the World Cup 2022.

The tournament is the first of its kind to be held during the winter season, because of the high temperatures in Qatar during the months of June and July, which reach an average of 41 degrees Celsius.

  1. Lusail Stadium

Lusail is the main stadium that built specifically for the tournament, where it will host both the opening and final matches. The stadium has a capacity of 80,000 spectators and it will be connected to the center of Doha via a metro line.

Lusail Stadium is inspired by Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium, which hosted the 2018 World Cup.

2. Khalifa International Stadium

one of the few stadiums in Qatar, which opened since 1976, and is slightly smaller than the Lusail stadium.

The stadium has been renovated and updated with new technology, making it the world’s coolest open stadiums, where the temperature will remain inside at 63 degrees Fahrenheit, whatever the heat outside.

3. Al Bayt Stadium

It is the stadium that competes with the best stadiums in the world, and its name is inspired by “House of Poetry”, a tent was inhabited by the people of the Badia in Qatar and the Gulf region throughout history. It has a unique design, as the stadium roof designed to look like a Bedouin tent.

The ceiling is fully retractable, can be opened and closed in 20 minutes, to control the temperature. The stadium is expected to host the semi-finals, as it has a capacity of 60,000 spectators.

4. Al Janoub Stadium

One of the architectural legends of the late Iraqi British engineer Zaha Hadid, who inspired the design idea from the sails of traditional boats that carried Qatari fishermen and divers to the sea for fishing and pearl search.

The stadium can accommodate up to 40,000 spectators, and it is also equipped with cooling technology that will reduce the sunlight intensity and will shade the entire stadium, as well as protect it from inside from the harsh weather.

5. Ahmed bin Ali Stadium

Known as Al Rayyan Stadium, a stadium that will accommodate 40,000 spectators, the outside part of it is decorated with symbols reflecting the Qatari culture.

After the World Cup 2022, the 40,000-seat capacity will be halved.

6. Qatar Foundation Stadium

Another stadium designed specifically for the tournament, known as Education City Stadium, the stadium’s design is inspired from Islamic architecture mixed with Arabic arts in general and Qatari in particular. where it has zigzaggedly designed to look like a diamond in the heart of the desert.

The stadium can accommodate 40,000 spectators, making it capable to host matches until the quarter-finals of the tournament.
